The Listening Parent Community, Platinum Sponsor for DDP Conference

31 July 2024

DDPI Worldwide and DDP Connects UK are very excited to introduce The Listening Parent Community as a Platinum Sponsor for the 2024 DDPI Worldwide Conference. The Listening Parent Community is an online membership club for parents that includes monthly masterclasses, guest speakers, weekly parenting advice emails and a peer support group.

It is run by Dr. George Thompson, DDP Practitioner and child psychiatrist, who specialises in working with traumatised young people in residential care. He is the Polyvagal Institute Chairperson, former Treasurer for the DDPI Board of Directors and author of several books on DDP and Polyvagal Theory.

The Listening Parent Community provides support and guidance to “make parenting easier and more impactful…” helping members to raise their “…children to be more secure in who they are, what they’re doing, and why they’re here.” George writes that “when parents’ nervous systems are calmer, their caregiving brains are naturally invigorated, and their parenting follows an intuitive wisdom”.

Dr. George Thompson’s significant support of our conference underscores his commitment to the treatment of developmentally traumatised children, his support of DDPI Worldwide’s move to become a more racially equitable and socially just organisation and to our global DDP community as whole.

This year saw the publication of “Working with Relational Trauma in Children’s Residential Care: A Guide to Using Dyadic Developmental Practice” which George co-authored with Edwina Grant and Kim Golding. This essential guide is for all professionals who work with children in residential care settings. Introducing how applying the principles of Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP) and PACE can help create a culture of support throughout residential care to the benefit of all colleagues and children.

Conference delegates can look forward to hearing from George directly as he takes to the stage on our Main Hall to talk about his work on Tuesday 24 September. He will also be available to sign copies of his books, including “Working with Relational Trauma in Children’s Residential Care” and “Polyvagal Theory and the Developing Child: Systems of Care for Strengthening Kids, Families, and Communities”, co-authored with Marilyn Sanders.

Please join us in expressing our most heartfelt thanks to Dr. George Thompson and The Listening Parent Community. Their contribution will make a wonderful and significant impact on the success of the 2024 DDPI Worldwide Conference.
