This workshop will focus on Autism and specifically communication styles with a focus on how this impacts DDP practice, there will be opportunity to think about how to adapt communication in the therapy space, as well as how to advise parents and help them to stay PACEful.

We will also look at how people with Autism may express emotions and explore the impact of alexithymia on the therapy process, working more at the embodied trauma and sensory level to help young people to deepen their emotional connection to their own narrative.

What people will learn?

  • An understanding of how Autism is diagnosed and the implications of communication for practicing DDP
  • Understanding of how developmental trauma, and the overlay of trauma related to Autism intersect
  • Adapting DDP language to engage a person with Autism
  • Working with families’ communication to adapt PACE

Who can attend

It is is open to anyone who has completed their DDP Level One training.

About Dr Jacqueline Lynch

Jacqueline is a consultant clinical psychologist working in the North of England, UK specialising in working with adopted/SGO/Kinship care and looked after children who have developmental trauma. She is a DDP practitioner and consultant, as well as being Theraplay certified and trained in EMDR. Jacqueline is also passionate about intersectionality and thinking about how to welcome in people who are neurodivergent into therapy spaces, and adapt them to help each person to achieve their best. She started her career working with families with ADHD, and now researches the impact of FASD and ASD as it intersects with developmental trauma, and from that, how young people can access therapy spaces.

DDP in Focus: your professional development program

DDP in Focus is an online professional development and education program from DDPI Worldwide. Comprising workshops, seminars and supervision sessions, this series will help you develop and broaden your cultural competency, DDP skills and practice.
