Let’s get this straight: providing DDP interventions keeping in mind lesbian, gay and bisexual parents, carers, young people and colleagues

5 June 2024 (1:00 pm - 4:30 pm BSTEurope/London)
Fully booked

Join Julie Hudson for a practice-based workshop on providing DDP therapy and supervision with lesbian, gay and bisexual adults, parents, carers and individuals.

Practice examples and exercises will be interspersed with snippets about history, discrimination, language, definitions, being marginalised and the queer experience.

Alongside a practice focus Julie will begin to explore together:

  • How identities might combine to create unique experiences of discrimination and disadvantage.
  • How an awareness of intersectionality helps us better acknowledge our similarities and differences.
  • The relevance of concepts of code switching and narrative burden when using DDP*.

*Narrative burden describes deciding how to respond to another’s expectation that you explain yourself when they ask questions. Code switching describes doing whatever is necessary in terms of appearing to be like the dominant/powerful/”normal” group to increase safety when with others.

Who can attend?

This workshop is for DDP Practitioners in Training, DDP Practitioners, Consultants and Trainers.
