Transitioning from primary to secondary school can be a vulnerable and disorienting time for many children, especially those who have experienced early developmental trauma. School transitions can often intensify feelings of anxiety, loss and grief.

This workshop holds all children in mind who have experienced developmental trauma while amplifying those whose experiences are often overlooked.

Grounded in the principles of PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) and Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP), we will explore how to create relational safety and therapeutic connection during times of change.

Learning Aims

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Apply the principles of PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) to support children with early developmental trauma through emotionally and socially complex school transitions.
  • Recognise how relational safety and regulation can be nurtured in secondary school environments for children with developmental trauma.
  • Explore the impact of systemic challenges, including adultification, code-switching, and racism, on Black and brown children navigating transitions and understand how these intersect with trauma responses.

Who Can Attend

This workshop is open to anyone who has completed DDP Level One training.
