How a person adapts their behaviour, over time, in an attempt to manage and survive difficult experiences in their life. A person’s adaptive options when faced with any given stressor are accommodation (trying to change himself to fit the stressor), assimilation (trying to change the stressor to fit himself), or escape (trying to avoid the stressor physically, mentally or emotionally).
