Avoidant attachment

When used as a child attachment classification it means the attachment style displayed by a child who tries to avoid paying attention to her own emotion, avoids outward expression of emotion in herself, as well as trying to ignore emotion in others. It arises from early experiences of abuse and/or neglect or less severe stress on the attachment such as separations, maternal depression, or surgery.
