Empathy

The capacity and willingness to be and stay with another person in whatever their emotional state.  Empathy is standing in the other person’s shoes, recognizing and responding to their emotional experience. By being able to be alongside someone in  distress or excitement you show your wish to understand, support and comfort them. Empathy greatly assists a child to explore, resolve, and integrate experiences of terror and shame.
