Coherent narrative

« Back to Glossary Index

A spoken or written account that connects events, memories and experiences. Individuals have a psychological need to make sense of the events and memories of their lives.  When the life story is comprehensive and organised, it is said to be coherent.  This process facilitates attachment security and occurs through helping a child in developing a written or spoken account of his life, often with the support of pictures or activities.
