If You Had Been Born to Me…
A Therapeutic Parenting Book for Adoptive Families
Blurb
This therapeutic story connects Adoptive Parent and Adoptee in the storytelling and exploration of ‘good enough parenting’ and in the impact on the child when those crucial early care experiences have been missed.
It is grounded in the Adoptive Parent’s wish that they had been there for their child from the very start, and the promise of consistent and reliable care which they would have provided. The Adoptive Parents messages are wrapped empathically in the validation and support for their child’s emotional pain that comes from developmental trauma.
This therapeutic story supports Life Story work and the building trust and attachment in the adoptive family and is grounded in DDP (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy).
This book is aimed at children and young people however it could equally be given to an older adoptee. It’s never too late.
