Billy Smythe is a Clinical Psychologist who specialises in work with looked after and adopted children and young people.
Billy completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at in 2009 and undertook NHS roles within a therapeutic fostering service and a specialist mental health team for looked after and adopted children before joining the team at Phoenix Psychology full-time in September 2012.
Phoenix is an independent provider of psychological services in Warwickshire that takes referrals from individuals, Local Authorities, health services and other statutory and non-statutory organisations.
Billy provides assessments and therapy for children and young people with attachment difficulties, developmental trauma and mental health problems. Billy has a special interest in providing psychological/ DDP-informed training, consultation and support for foster carers, parents, schools, residentials and professional networks around children and families. At Phoenix, Billy often works closely with statutory organisations and teams, for example, currently supporting Adoption Central England to develop and embed DDP-informed practice across the organistion.
Billy co-runs the West Midlands DDP Interest Group and is currently working towards becoming a DDP Trainer
