Billy Smythe is a Clinical Psychologist who specialises in work with looked after and adopted children and young people.

Billy completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at in 2009 and undertook an NHS role in a therapeutic fostering service and a specialist mental health team for looked after and adopted children before joining Phoenix Psychology full-time in September 2012.

Phoenix is an independent provider of psychological services in Warwickshire that takes referrals from Local Authorities, health services and other statutory and non-statutory organisations.

Billy is the Head of LAC and Adoption at Phoenix and provides psychological assessments and therapy for children and young people with attachment difficulties, developmental trauma and mental health problems. Billy also offers DDP-informed training, consultation and support for foster carers, parents, schools, residential homes and the networks around children and families. Billy works closely with other service and teams, for example, he is supporting Adoption Central England (ACE) to  embed DDP practice across the organisation.

Billy co-runs the West Midlands DDP Interest Group, offers DDP supervision, supports others through the DDP practicum and is a Certified DDP Trainer.
