Biography

Bonita is an experienced therapist who has worked in a variety of settings including schools, independent fostering agencies and charities as well as working independently. Originally trained as an adult therapist, Bonita’s passion for working with children and families led to her gaining further qualifications in Play Therapy and Attachment Focused Therapy (Filial).

Bonita’s creative therapy approaches have been used in therapy services to gently challenge children and adolescents who have experienced relational trauma and loss. Bonita believes that when children who have experienced early childhood trauma find it difficult to feel safe within their placements, therapeutic approaches that focus on strengthening the child’s attachment to their carer is the most effective way to achieve stability. For this reason, Bonita’s core treatment approach is Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and she underpins her life story therapy with DDP Principles.

Bonita supports a number of IFA’s and Local authorities and offers DDP informed Clinical supervision to groups of social workers, family support teams, teachers and adoption professionals. Additionally, Bonita delivers numerous training programmes including Nurturing Attachments, Foundation to Attachments and "Train the Trainer".
