This free Special Interest Group (SIG) is for practitioners who are using, or beginning to use, DDP principles in residential childcare settings. It offers a supportive, PACE-full space to connect with others, share ideas and dilemmas, and think together about how DDP can be embedded in group living environments.
We’ll explore themes such as: building PACE within staff teams, working with multiple children in one home, supporting regulation in the system, and keeping relationships at the heart of everyday residential practice. Sessions may include short inputs, discussion, small group activities and opportunities to reflect on practice.
The group is not a supervision space and individual cases will not be worked with in a supervisory way; instead, we’ll use examples, themes and shared experiences to deepen confidence and skill in applying DDP.
The SIG will run online (via Microsoft Teams) for around 2 hours, up to four times a year. It is aimed at those who have completed at least DDP Level One and are interested in thinking specifically about applying DDP in residential contexts.
Facilitators
Dr Ben Gurney-Smith is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over twenty years experience of work with children and families in the NHS, social care and third sector/charitable sector. He is currently Consultant Clinical Psychologist of a NHS general adolescent unit. Ben is also the Primary Consultant for Clover Childcare Services in Norfolk and has supported their accreditation as a DDP organisation; making Clover the first DDP certified residential provider in the UK.
Mark Marshall is a qualified social worker who has specialised in residential childcare since 2007 and is currently the Head of Therapy at Clover Childcare Services. Over the years, he has worked in a wide range of roles, from residential worker to senior manager and now as a DDP Practitioner. These experiences have shaped his deep appreciation for the relational, attuned care that children need in order to heal.
