From Mistrust to Trust

Dr. Jonathan BaylinNeurobiology-of-Attachment-Focused-Therapy and Dr. Dan Hughes, coauthors of Brain Based Parenting, will be presenting at the Family Futures annual conference on 17 and 18 October 2016, drawing on the content of their new book The Neurobiology of Attachment-Focused Therapy. Day one is aimed at Professionals and day two is for adoptive parents, foster carers and carers caring for children or SGOs.

As part of ticket sales, Family Futures is working with W. W. Norton and Company Ltd to offer discounted copies of The Neurobiology of Attachment-Focused Therapy. The book, which is due to be published at the end of August, has a retail price of £20. But W. W. Norton and Company Ltd is offering professionals a 30% discount meaning they can buy it for £14. The books will be given out at the conference.

Day One – 17th October

For: Professionals inc. Social workers, psychologists, therapists and teachers

For anyone who has a role in working with adoptive families or foster families an understanding of the neurobiology of attachment is crucial and should form the foundation for all clinical work with traumatised children.

The day’s conference focuses on a key aspect of attachment behaviour, which is trust as mistrust. There is a body of evidence which now shows that trust and mistrust is a key determinant of successful placement outcome.

Day Two – 18th October

For: Adoptive parents, foster carers and carers caring for children or SGOs

The conference for parents covers much the same ground as the conference for professionals and clinicians. However, Dan Hughes and Jonathan Baylin will focus particularly on the implications of trust and mistrust for effective parenting of traumatised children in their presentation.

The concept of attachment is familiar to most. Trust and mistrust of the parent by the child has been identified as a key determinant for successful attachment formation. Dan and Jonathan will be giving practical suggestions as to how parents and carers can create a caring environment that cultivates trust.

The day’s conference will be of interest to anyone who is caring for a child who has attachment difficulties.

Early booking is advised. Please contact training@familyfutures.co.uk or complete the online booking form on the website.
