Sawubona is a Zulu Tribe greeting meaning I see you; We see you, you are important to me, and I value you, and I allow myself to discover your needs. I allow myself to discover all your fears and accept you for what you are.

This is a Special Interest Group (SIG) for self-identified Black, Asian and Global Majority DDP community members, who may just be starting on your journey or feel that you are somewhere along the path. The SIG will focus on race, culture and ethnicity within DDP work, exploring how best to integrate working with these issues to best help your clients.

It is also an opportunity to explore how each of us integrated working as a therapist within a majority white space, and this will be a personal journey in helping each of us as we focus on racial trauma, marginalisation and projective processes supporting each of us to step into this as our whole selves.

The level of DDP training and clinical experience of the group on the day (anyone with DDP Level One upwards is welcome) will set the themes and context and may include discussions of relevant books people have enjoyed, recent presentations from conferences and discussions around research. We will encourage members to take up the opportunity to present their work on DDP themes.

Above all the group will hold true to DDP principles by offering a secure base, supportive connections and learning through our own and our clients’ stories. The overall goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment to all those who self-identify as Black, Asian and global majority DDP members, to aid in a sense of collective engagement on topics relevant to the community we represent.

It is a free event supported by DDP Connects UK.
