DDP Connect U.K. & Ireland has been saddened to learn of the reduction in the fair access limit of the Adoption and Special Guardianship Fund (ASGSF) in England.
After period of uncertainty which has led to deep distress and anxiety for many, the fund has been reduced significantly from £5000 for therapy and £2500 for specialist assessment down to a combined total of £3000, less than half of the previous allowance.
We recognise the vital therapeutic help that has been offered to families through this fund over many years and our hearts go out to all those families who will be impacted by this change.
We recognise there will be very significant repercussions. We know that DDP therapy provided through the ASGSF has helped thousands of traumatised children build safe and trusting relationships and been a ‘lifeline’ for many families. Cuts to the ASGSF will undermine this vital work. DDP Connects U.K. & Ireland will put out a further statement in due course, after we have had time to consult with the DDP community and better understand the full impact this will have and what action we can take.
