8. What do I have to do to keep up my certification and what is the renewal process?
Your certification is required to be renewed every 4 years following on from your final submitted practicum recording. The due date for renewal will be on your DDPI certificate. This renewal information is applicable to new practitioners and those renewing their certification after 18 April 2017.
Renewal of Practitioner Certification requires these three elements:
- DDPI membership
- Submission of the signed Certification Renewal Attestation form
- Clinical supervision
1. DDPI Membership
Membership in DDPI requires:
- Timely payment of the annual DDPI membership fee
- Maintaining professional indemnity insurance and
- Maintaining registration or licensing with your professional body
2. Submission of the signed DDPI Attestation form
Please note that you are required to inform DDPI immediately if there is any change to the information in your Attestation Form.
3. Clinical supervision
Option 1
UK Practitioners and Consultants MUST select Option 1
The UK has specific standards of quality assurance for therapeutic interventions. It is a DDPI requirement that UK Practitioners and Consultants have clinical supervision as an essential part of their DDP practice and renewal of certification. This consists of:
- Each year you must have a minimum of least 4 hours of individual or group DDP supervision with a named Certified DDPI-approved Consultant.
- Supervision must include, over the 4-year period, the showing of at least one video recording of your DDP work to a Consultant each year. The Consultant will complete the DDP Rating Scale and provide verbal or written narrative feedback.
- If you have more regular supervision than the minimum requirement of 4 hours, specifically 1 hour every month or two (totalling at least 6 hours per year), and this supervision includes showing video recordings of your work, the requirement for your Consultant to provide written narrative feedback and complete the DDP Rating Scale is optional.
- You will keep a written record of the dates and content of supervision
DDPI Record for Renewal of Practitioner Certification - The Consultant will advise if it is felt that further supervision is required in order to meet DDPI renewal standards.
- The DDPI Board Review committee will make a final decision to settle any disagreement between the Consultant and Practitioner.
Option 2
This option is NOT available to UK Practitioners and Consultants
- Each year, you will submit at least one video of a DDP session to a named Certified DDPI-approved Consultant. The Consultant will complete the DDP Rating Scale and provide written narrative feedback.
- You will keep a written record of the dates and content of supervision
DDPI Record for Renewal of Practitioner Certification - The Consultant will advise if it is felt that further supervision is required in order to meet DDPI renewal standards
- If you disagree with further supervision being required, you may ask the DDPI Board Review Committee for a second opinion, which will be final.
A certain percentage of Certified DDP Practitioners may be audited to assure that all renewal requirements – DDPI Membership, submission of the Attestation Form and Clinical Supervision – have been met.
What happens when renewal requirements are not met?
- The Practitioner will be charged a late fee if the annual DDPI membership fee is not paid on time
- The Practitioner will lose their status as a Certified Practitioner in DDP
- The Practitioner’s name will be removed from the website.
How is restoration to Certified Practitioner status achieved?
The Practitioner may petition the DDPI Board Review Committee to have their Certification status reinstated. The DDPI Board Review Committee may approve the request with or without further requirements, or they may deny the request. Requirements include:
- All renewal of certification requirements must be met.
- Past due fees and late fees must be paid in full.
- An administrative fee is required to restore DDPI membership status to good standing.
